This Munch's Topic : Shameless - Unpacking Shame in the Lifestyle
Dr. Emy Tafelski (she/her) is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MT3066) and the founder of Me-Therapy, a holistic therapy practice based in St. Petersburg, Florida, serving clients in person and virtually across the state. She holds a PhD in Psychology with a specialization in consciousness, spirituality, and integrative health, and brings that depth into a practice built on being trauma-informed and non-pathologizing.
Emy specializes in sex therapy, kink-affirming care, non-monogamy, and identity-affirming individual therapy. Her work centers on the intersections of emotion, relationship, sexuality, and identity, and she is known for holding space that lets people explore desire, power, and intimacy without judgment or performance. She works from what she calls the Whole Person Therapist Model, a commitment to her own ongoing growth as the foundation for the care she offers others.
Emy speaks and writes regularly on topics like shame, disclosure, and desire, with a particular interest in how shame attaches to identity, especially when that identity falls outside of what we've been taught is the cultural norm. She believes therapy, and conversations like this one, work best when they are spacious, embodied, and deeply human. Not a formula. A field.
We will be discussing connections between shame and eroticism. These topics have been explored throughout human history and through a wide variety of lenses: psychology, literature, philosophy, music, and even neuroscience.
In the kink world especially, consensual shame-based eroticism could become a kind of global community-wide erogenous zone.
